The Best Wild Game Meatloaf Recipe
Ever had moose meat?
I hadn't either...until earlier this week. A coworker filled his moose tag in Maine earlier this fall and he was kind enough to share about two pounds of moose meat, ground into burger.
Of course I had to try it! And what better way is there to try a new wild game meat than wrapped in bacon?
The hunt for this meat was an epic days-long ordeal. Both my coworker Kevin and his stepson ended up filling their tags, which is amazing!
The recipe I followed is one I have used for wild turkey. You can see the whole thing in my column last month on Women's Outdoor News: The Perfect Wild Turkey Meatloaf Recipe.
I figured, why not try it with moose instead of turkey? The results were fantastic. I would argue this is the best wild game meatloaf!
I went conservative on the meat mixture, though in the end it wasn't necessary. Since I didn't know if I would like the taste of moose meat, I blended it 50/50 with beef. The meat ended up being incredibly tender, so it would have done great on its own, without the beef. I guess this way I stretched it out a bit longer - since I only used about a pound in this meatloaf, I can have more later. :)
What do you think - would you try mooseloaf?
